Starting Not from the Market, but from a Simple Question
Most brands begin by looking at market demand—what sells well, what draws attention, what can scale. My An did not start that way. Our starting point was a simple question: is there still a way to keep what our parents and grandparents once used, in a way that stays true to it? From that question, we came to noni—not because it was a “trending product,” but because it has long existed in everyday life.
But the more we explored, the more we noticed a clear gap between how noni was used in the past and how it appears on the market today. Some focus on speed to bring out products quickly. Some speak too much about benefits. Others rely on personal experience without a clear process. If this continues, what remains may only be something called “noni,” without its original spirit.
Choosing to Go Slowly in Order to Truly Understand
Instead of rushing into production to test the market, My An spent more time on things that do not bring immediate results: understanding the raw material, experimenting with different methods, and adjusting the process step by step. Some things can be done quickly and still produce a result. But when done in a hurry, it is hard to know what might have been overlooked.
For us, building a process is not about having one “just for the sake of it,” but about ensuring that every step has a reason to exist. From selecting the fruit, to preparing it, to fermenting and storing—everything is repeated, adjusted, and refined until it feels stable enough to keep. This approach takes more time. But in return, we understand where our product comes from and how it is made—instead of simply knowing that “it has been finished.”
Choosing to Speak Honestly, Not Just Persuasively
One clear aspect of how My An approaches the market is that we do not speak about noni as if it were medicine. We also do not try to present it in a way that creates expectations of a specific result. In a context where many herbal products are promoted with strong claims, this is not an easy choice. It may make the product seem less “attractive” at first glance, but it allows us to keep something more important: honesty.
We see noni as part of a way of living—a choice for those who want to approach their bodies in a more natural way. Some people may feel a difference over time; some may not. And we accept both possibilities, rather than trying to shape how people should feel.
Keeping a Sense of Care in a Small Thing
From a business perspective, making a product from noni may not seem like something significant. But for My An, it is not just about production or sales. It is about choosing to do a small thing with care. We do not increase production when quality is not yet fully controlled. We do not expand too quickly when the foundation is not yet stable. And we do not trade trust for short-term growth. This path may make My An slower than others. But in return, we know clearly what we are doing and why we are doing it. And over time, that may be the most difficult thing to replace.
A Path That Is Not Fast, but Clear
Choosing to move slowly in a fast-moving market has never been easy. There will be times when we move later than others, times when we need to explain more, and times when we are compared to faster and more convenient approaches. But if the goal is to preserve the true value of something as simple as noni, there may not be many other paths.
My An does not aim to become a large brand in a short time. We simply move forward step by step, in the way we believe is right—even if it is a little slower. In return, the path becomes clearer—and perhaps more sustainable.
