Where Did My An Begin—and Why Noni?

Some beginnings don’t come from big plans, but from things that have always been quietly familiar. For My An, noni was one of those choices—not because it stood out at first, but because it had long been there, in a very natural way.

A Familiar Memory from Ben Tre

The founder of My An was born and raised in Ben Tre, where noni is not rare. In many gardens, noni grows behind the house, along small canals—often just there, without much notice. The fruit falls when ripe, with a strong smell, unlike the fruits people would pick and eat every day. For many, it was not something to “enjoy.”

But if you looked a little closer, noni still had its place. Quietly. Without much mention. When needed, it was there—boiled for drinking, dried for later use, or soaked in wine. No one explained much. No one spoke in scientific terms. It was simply understood that this fruit had its own kind of value. Nothing about it was remarkable, yet it was always present—gradually becoming part of memory.

Seeing It Again, from a Different Perspective

Only later, after stepping into the wider world and encountering more information, did noni begin to be seen differently. It was no longer just a familiar fruit in the garden. It started appearing in products—both in Vietnam and elsewhere. At the same time, a clearer shift was taking place: more people were turning back to herbs and more natural ways of caring for their health.

From there, a simple thought began to form. If something had long been part of everyday life, and if people today were rediscovering similar values, then perhaps it deserved to be looked at more carefully.  Not to make it “new” or “special,” but to understand it more clearly—and to work with it more thoughtfully.

Beginning with a Simple Idea

My An did not begin with a big concept or a complex plan. It started from a simple intention: to remake noni-based products in a more careful way. Careful in how the fruit is selected. Clear in how it is processed. And more suitable for the way people live today.

There was no goal to turn noni into something else. No attempt to overstate what it could do. Only to keep what was already there—while presenting it in a way that feels more thoughtful and easier to understand for people today.

Not a Random Choice

So if you ask why My An chose noni, the answer is not because it stands out more than other herbs. Noni is not something that impresses immediately. It is not the first thing people think of when it comes to health or self-care. But precisely because it has always been there—quietly, in everyday life—looking back makes it clear that it never truly disappeared. It simply became less noticed, less spoken of, almost forgotten among so many other options.

For My An, choosing noni is not about searching for something new. It is more like returning to something familiar—while looking at it with greater care. Looking at it to understand more clearly. To work with it more carefully. And to keep its original values, in a way that fits the present. Perhaps that is why this choice was never really random. It came from a long enough process to recognize that some things may seem ordinary, but when treated with care, they can still remain quietly and sustainably part of everyday life.
